Korea offers wellness tourism programs that combines traditional Korean medicine with modern wellness facilities. Wellness tourism refers to travel aimed at achieving a balance of physical, mental, and social well-being through experiences such as hot springs, meditation, yoga, and healthy cuisine. To foster the growth of “K-Wellness,” the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization designate and promote outstanding wellness destinations. After first selecting 77 sites in 2024, an additional 11 were designated in 2025, expanding the list to the current Wellness Korea 88. These destinations are categorized into themes such as nature and forest healing, beauty and spa, healing and meditation, Korean medicine, accommodation, and food, allowing visitors to experience rest and health management together.

Korean medicine spas and herbal therapies are wellness programs based on traditional medical practices, characterized by the use of herbal baths, heat therapy, skincare treatments, and meditation. Facilities such as the Seoul K-Medi Center and the Donguibogam Village in Sancheong offer Korean medicine experiences and health management programs. Traditional Korean sauna complexes and hot-spring-style spas are also widely used as uniquely Korean wellness spaces where travelers can relax and recover from fatigue during their stay.

Wellness resorts designed for extended stays in natural settings are found across the country. Resorts set amid forests, coastal areas, and hot spring environments provide yoga, meditation, spa treatments, and healthy cuisine programs. Urban wellness facilities and integrated medical and wellness programs are also available in major cities, including Seoul. Through the designation of wellness destinations and support for related programs, the government and local authorities continue to expand stay-based medical tourism centered on rest and recovery.
