===Eng=== '''Jeju’s World Natural Heritage''' In 2007, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province was inscribed as Korea’s first UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site under the title Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes. Comprising the Hallasan Mountain Natural Reserve, Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone, and the Geomunoreum Lava Tube System, the property covers approximately ten percent of the island’s total area. It was recognized for its outstanding geological features and ecosystems formed through volcanic activity. Hallasan Mountain, rising 1,950 meters above sea level, is the highest mountain in South Korea. Volcanic activity continued here until about 25,000 years ago, and approximately 360 parasitic cones, locally known as oreum, are distributed across its surrounding area. Distinct vertical vegetation zones range from temperate to subarctic climates according to elevation, supporting more than 1,800 plant species and over 4,000 animal species. Hallasan was designated a Natural Monument in 1966 and a National Park in 1970. It was later recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2002, inscribed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2007, and certified as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2010, confirming its international significance. Seongsan Ilchulbong, rising 180 meters above sea level, is a tuff cone formed approximately 5,000 years ago by a rare submarine volcanic eruption among the many parasitic cones on Jeju Island. As lava interacted explosively with seawater, it fragmented into fine volcanic ash that accumulated in a cone shape around the crater. Originally an isolated volcanic island, it later became connected to the main island as sand and gravel deposits built up between them. The summit crater measures about 600 meters in diameter, with a crater floor approximately 90 meters above sea level and an area of 214,400 square meters. The sunrise viewed from this site has long been regarded as the finest among the Ten Scenic Views of Jeju.” The Geomunoreum Lava Tube System consists of more than twenty lava caves formed when lava flows from Geomunoreum, which rises 456 meters above sea level, traveled northeastward to the coast. Among these, Bengdwigul Cave, Manjanggul Cave, Gimnyeonggul Cave, Yongcheondonggul Cave, and Dangcheomuldonggul Cave are included in the World Natural Heritage designation. Manjanggul Cave, which is open to the public, extends approximately 7,400 meters in total length, with a maximum height of about 25 meters and a maximum width of about 18 meters, making it one of the largest lava tubes in the world. Currently, only a one-kilometer section is accessible to visitors. At the end of the open section stands a lava column approximately 7.6 meters high, known as the largest of its kind in the world.
