These sites feature meticulously recreated architecture and streetscapes of specific historical periods, and when not in use for filming, they are open to the public as venues for historical experience and cultural education. Representative facilities include Mungyeongsaejae Open Set, Korean Folk Village, and MBC Dramia (Dae Jang Geum Theme Park).

Mungyeongsaejae Open Set, located in Mungyeong, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, is a filming facility specializing in historical dramas that recreates Joseon-era Hanyang (today's Seoul) streets, government offices (<i>gwana</i>), taverns (<i>jumak</i>), and private residences on a grand scale. Numerous popular historical dramas including <i>The Legend</i>, <i>Queen Seondeok</i>, and <i>Kingdom</i> were filmed here, and visitors can participate in various experience programs such as traditional costume wearing, archery, and horseback riding. The Korean Folk Village, located in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do Province, is an outdoor museum that recreates a Joseon-era village at actual scale. With over 260 traditional houses, workshops, and a marketplace, it has served as a filming location for dramas and films including <i>Dae Jang Geum</i> and <i>Untold Scandal</i>, simultaneously offering traditional culture experiences and filming location tourism. 

MBC Dramia is a large filming complex owned by MBC broadcasting company in Yangju, Gyeonggi-do Province, equipped with sets recreating various periods from the Joseon dynasty to the modern era. Countless historical dramas including <i>Yi San</i>, <i>Dong Yi</i>, and <i>The Moon Embracing the Sun</i> were produced here, most notably the drama <i>Dae Jang Geum</i>, recreating royal palaces, government offices, aristocratic residences, and market streets. The facility is open to the public for filming location tours, and visitors can experience wearing traditional Korean clothing, <i>hanbok</i>, and watch traditional performances. These open film sets function beyond simple filming facilities as educational spaces and tourist attractions where visitors can experience Korean history and traditional culture, also contributing to regional economic revitalization. They have gained particular popularity among international Korean Wave (<i>hallyu</i>) fans as special destinations where they can directly experience the settings of Korean dramas.
