Korea’s traditional clothing, hanbok was crafted in various forms to suit the country’s four distinct seasons, with appropriate materials and structures selected according to seasonal characteristics and the wearer’s activities. Seasonal hanbok is broadly categorized into single-layer garments (<i>horot</i>), double-layer garments (<i>gyebot</i>), cotton-padded garments (<i>somot</i>), and quilted garments (<i>nubiot</i>). Single-layer garments are made from one layer of fabric with excellent breathability for summer wear. Cool materials such as ramie or hemp were used to provide relief from heat. Double-layer garments consist of two layers of fabric sewn together, suitable for spring and autumn. Separate lining and outer fabric enhanced warmth and comfort.

Cotton-padded garments served as winter hanbok with cotton batting placed between two layers of fabric, effective for maintaining body temperature in cold weather.
