Akmal, originally from Uzbekistan, is an international student studying sociology in South Korea. Through his experiences, he has witnessed how strong the interest in the Korean Wave (Hallyu) is in Uzbekistan, especially the passion for Korean dramas.

Akmal is particularly aware of how popular the drama Dae Jang Geum is in his home country. Broadcast overseas, Dae Jang Geum has been loved by audiences in many countries, and Uzbekistan is one of them. Its popularity stands as a successful example of Korean drama exports, turning Uzbekistan—along with many other countries—into devoted fan nations of Korean dramas.

As he observes Hallyu spreading across Asia, Akmal enjoys living in a multicultural environment as a sociology student. With the growth of Hallyu tourism, drama tours have become a new form of cultural experience, and by directly engaging in this cultural exchange, Akmal finds his life as an international student richer and more fulfilling.

Akmal has come to realize that the success of these dramas and of Hallyu goes beyond simple cultural exchange, strengthening cultural ties between Uzbekistan and South Korea. Through his experiences in Korea, he hopes to deepen mutual understanding between the two countries when he returns to Uzbekistan.
